If you are the daring kind both in terms of
adventure and also one that has the gusts to bear the cold, then Auli is
the destination for you this winter. One of the finest spots for skiing in
the country, it is nestled in the lap of the snow-capped peaks of Garhwarl
Himayas in Chamoli district of western Uttar Pradesh near the world famous
religious shrine of Badrinath. At one point, Just out of Rishikesh, a
brightly painted orck has the following slogan painted on it

roads Organisation, who look after roads in the mountainous regions of the
country. So it's a spot ofr those who are willing to give their all for a
risk well worth it.
At an altitude of 2500 to 3000 metrea above sea level the places's well
dressed slopes are flanked by coniferous and oak forests and offer
apanoramic view of Mt. Nanda Devi, Mana Parbat, Dungariri, Deethartoli
etc.
The rugged and snowy terrain of Auli is so challenging that it used to be
a training ground for Indi's paramilitary forces in the 1970s. and today
it is promising ski-spot and an ideal winter resort.

Distance: About 500 kms from Delhi
Getting there: Direct buses to Joshimath, and from Rishikesh,
Haridwar and Dehradun to Joshimath and then 13 kilometres to Auli by bus
or taxi.
Rail:- Shatabadi to Rishikesh and then by road. One has to leave
before 8.30 am
Air : The nearest airport is Jolly Grant in Dehradun.
Accommodation: Garhwal Mandal Vikas Nigam runs tourist rest houses
along the route and there are also several private lodges.
Travel kit:- Tourist are advised to bring woollden clothings, cap,
socks, dark glasses, gloves, mufflers, pullovers, wind-proof jackets,
gum/snow boots and torch light. Skiing equipment is available on hire.
